In addition to full garden designs, we also provide planting plans for other designers and landscapers, upon request. We have designed and installed plantings around the UK, in Italy and other countries around the world.
Design
For all that we do in our work, and all that we gain from it, the most important thing will always remain the experience of the people who will spend time in the created space we leave behind.
David Cooper said that the garden is an epiphany of man’s relationship to the mystery of existence. That ‘if engaged in with an appropriate sensibility, embodies more saliently that any other practice the truth of the relation between human beings and their world’.
His philosophical thesis centres on the basis that although gardens can be experienced much as art, architecture or music, that the appreciation in humans runs deeper than a simple awareness of the interaction it creates between art and nature. We feel it on a primeval level, and therefore whilst each experience might differ from person to person, it is a universal construct that we all will experience something that moves us.
It is why when we design, we think not only of what the eye will see. We speak of what sound the breeze makes as it moves the plants, what scent will be carried on the air, what sensation will be felt on the skin in the sun or shade; how the ground will feel under foot. Memories are made and evoked by so much more than our sight alone and we strive to create spaces that speak to all our senses, and the spirit at the core of our humanity.
Because, in the infamous words of Sir Thomas More ‘the soul cannot thrive in the absence of a garden’.
